KSC Yes We Can

Why waste a perfectly good slogan on boring politics, when three points and a place in the Bundesliga are at stake? At least Karlsruhe fans thought so ahead of the match against Werder Bremen (1-0).

Bremen is the smallest of Germany’s Federal States, but thanks to DFL rules is still worth a full three points. A tough trip to Berlin is up next. Though, the key battle ground state for Karlsruhe’s anti-relegation campaign will be North Rhine-Westphalia, with fixtures against Cologne, Gladbach, Bochum and Bielefeld coming up next year. The city of Cottbus over in the state of Brandenburg will likely also have to be won by Karlsruhe. No team with 40pts or more at the end of the season has ever been relegated, so this is a rough guideline for Karlsruhe. Though, the way the teams at the bottom have performed so far, 30pts + x should be enough this season.

I was like thinking when I saw the photo the other day – ‘Obama fever have reached the Bundesliga stadiums’. :)

I know for a moment on the Sport1.de website on Sunday, the website have a photo of Schalke fans holding up a cardboard banner saying something like ‘Andreas Mueller no he can’t’ in a post-match review of Schalke’s match against Hertha Berlin. The words written in English even. Damn, I should have saved that photo. Given I cannot find it anywhere on the website since.

I caught this little gem, too, on the sports review show here in Hong Kong (love this dedicated soccer channel, must get one in the U.S.). Obama message of hope through the dark times knows no bounds.

Juliet, you are in Hong Kong at the moment? Hello! *imaginary wave* It is just a few hours of plane flight from here in Singapore (where I am) to there. And both countries share the same time zone, too.

Actually, I almost went to Hong Kong last year. But our family’s holiday schedule could not fit into it. Hong Kong being one of those countries I have always wanted to go.

Or places, given Hong Kong is part of China. But it is amazing how Obama’s message transcend across all boundaries.

And Jan, thanks for letting me know something new. Bremen being the smallest of all the federal states in Germany. I never know about that. I only know that Bremen and Hamburg are located in the north of Germany.
