Champions League: Previews
By: Jan | September 18th, 2007The new Champions League season (if you exclude all the qualifying matches) is less than an hour away and the Bundesliga clubs will start their campaigns with two tough games against Spanish clubs. Werder Bremen will face Real Madrid at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu and Schalke 04 play at home against Valencia. I would personally be surprised if Bremen returns from Madrid with anything but a clear defeat. Madrid looks really strong at the moment and Bremen, well, they don’t. Corey has posted a long match preview over at the Real Madrid Offside. Schalke should be a bit more optimistic. They are in form, play at home and Valencia had some problems in La Liga. Though they nonetheless won their match this weekend and actually rested some of their best players, so they might look and perform a bit different against Schalke. Tomorrow Stuttgart will follow suit with a difficult away match against Glasgow Rangers at Ibrox. Del Boy wrote a quick match preview over at the Rangers Offside. I hope that Stuttgart are slowly finding their feet again after comfortably beating Cottbus on Saturday. Thomas Hitzlsperger will be out injured and Yildiray Bastürk probably won’t be match fit either. I’m wondering how many games Bastürk will play at all this season. He seems to be picking up injuries every other game he plays.
