It’s the first time I had been to the Kickette website, and now I had regretted it. *points her finger at Jan* ;) Only one thing to say – Ew!

You know I was telling my father just the other day about the Deloitte report in terms of profits earned for the 2006/07 season (it was the auditing firm’s target season for their report), the Bundesliga wins. The Premier League had won in the wages department but come in second in terms of profitability to its German counterpart. I was feeling smug after telling him that. I used to study accounting (given up halfway for some time now) and in the world of business, people always care about how much the company earns. The Bundesliga has the upper hand here.

And in terms of representatives in Austria and Switzerland…I actually did the maths that had England qualified after all, the number representing the Premier League and the Bundesliga will be changed easily. I was also telling that to my father the other day as well. He was silent! :) I am going to have the bragging rights during the tournament.

But the problem is that…I had been looking at the newspapers I always read these few days, no mention in terms of the number of representatives each football league is sending to the tournament. I wonder is it because the Premier League is second to the Bundesliga in terms of representation of players and so no mention so far. It’s funny the report came out on Thursday or something but, nothing here! It’s only harping on the wages being given out in the Premier League in the 2006/07 season being the highest in Europe. With blanket coverage on the Premier League, I am not too surprised.

Speaking of which national team to support, with my father going for Portugal (he’s a Manchester United fan and Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani are over there) during the Euros, it will be a little tough to persuade him to be in the same boat with me. Going to be one losing battle even before the get-go. Given even he admitted England didn’t qualify, he don’t have a lot of interest in the upcoming Euros.

At the end of it Jan, I am not very optimistic with even all the stats (profit for the 2006/07 season, number of Bundesliga-based players at the Euros). A report in one of yesterday’s newspaper don’t give me the good feeling of whether I will be seeing the Bundesliga on TV in the short term.

It’s about the Eurosport channel being from the family package of the pay-TV here to the sports group starting July 1. I had been watching Eurosport at times out of boredom since it was on air on the pay-TV for a few weeks now. We have the sports group at home and I need not worry much of no Eurosport when July 1 comes. The report is saying that in the short term, there are no plans to beef up the sports group (given there is already a number of channels on that group for quite a reasonable price). One euro is slightly over two Singapore dollars here.

With the main telecom provider (they even have some sort of a pay-TV service which in my opinion, a little expensive) securing the rights to broadcast the Champions League and the UEFA Cup from August 2009 to May 2012, the 2008/09 Champions League season will be the final time I am watching on the pay-TV my family had been subscribing to for some time now. My father is ruling out of switching to another provider. He only cares whether he can watch the Premier League and that is about it.

They say patience is a virture…guess I have to wait, and wait. The Internet for me, then.

Good job England didn’t qualify for Euro 2008, it means you have an outside chance of winning it! Is football fever in full flow in Germany now?
