Well, I personally think that the way clubs are run in the Bundesliga at the moment represents the "perfect" business model for a football club. As a business they still seek to maximise profits to buy players, remain competitive, win titles and invest in infrastructure or youth. But there's no third party profiting from it, so all the money stays with the club. And since there's no third party to feed there's also room for not maximising profits at all costs to allow for cheap tickets and stuff like that.

Oops. Forgot to add 'owned' when referring to Manchester United and Aston Villa being also owned by the Americans as well. Brain fart! :(

'(or for girls: my league is prettier than yours)'
As a female, I hear you Jan. :) But really, I rather take the 'better than yours' part instead.

This has always been one topic I had been attempting to tackle into one lengthy essay and maybe rant it away on my blog. I used to study History and so I am used to write lengthy essays when tackling questions raised during examinations and the usual classes. But then as I read the papers daily, I am forever daunted by statements and articles in the sports section about the Premier League being in the best in the world and so on (whether it's direct or not, and I just encountered one on the Wednesday's edition). Okay, I just flipped through those pages. But then again, I cannot deny the fact that the Premier League is popular here (as I said before which I suspect it's partly due to the British colonial legacy...and that is also another fact I cannot run away from as a Singaporean).

'and advocates love, peace and harmony among fans.'
:-)

Speaking of investors on the possibility coming into the Bundesliga...I am split on this. While there has been turmoil over what's going on at Liverpool in terms of who really owns the club these days (even I myself is confused!), it has been peace at Manchester United and Aston Villa. United and Aston Villa like Liverpool, also also by Americans but, the situation is different. I don't know, on one hand I want to say the prospective owners should know what they are really doing before they take over a club but, oh well. :( I am hoping the initiative of a group of Liverpool fans coming together and buy the club someday will bear fruit. Maybe it's me being a football romantic at the end of the day and have fans owning a club but, at least it's a start in the top flight in English football.

*make a mental note to read The Pitch Invasion article once again*

Oh yeah, thanks for the article from The Herald. I know all along Schaaf had been at Werder Bremen like forever, but never knew it has been 36 years...and still counting. Wow. :D
