Last year they missed out on promotion on virtually the last game of the season. This time around, they will soon have their new stadium ready and they have a 12 point lead over the third placed team. It's a good year for football in Berlin. A future former west vs former east inner city derby is also very promising. Though the two clubs shared a fan friendship during the cold war, with Dynamo Berlin being the hated regime backed superclub, so it'll probably won't be like 1860 vs Bayern or HSV vs St. Pauli. Also, I had the good fortune of attending an Union Berlin game last year and it was probably the coolest thing I did in Berlin. The fans are amazing and the stadium is charming (if a bit decrepit last year). The only drawback was the guy next to me smoking what seemed to be a full pack of cigarettes by the end of 90 minutes. As I was downwind, I got quite a bit of second-hand smoke, but it was definitely worth it. Poor Mario…he can’t even do a harmless game show without being poked fun at.
