International Break: Bochum Go to South Africa
By: Jan | November 18th, 2009It has been a bleak season for VfL Bochum. The club sits 17th in the table, switched coaches instead of fortunes and only had Hertha Berlin to cheer them up. A trip to the national team can be a welcome change of scene for the players. Bochum’s central defender Anthar Yahia and their striker Zlatko Dedic chose to make the most of it by sending their nations to South Africa in a decisive World Cup playoff…
Anthar Yahia scored the solitary goal against Egypt in the 40th minute. You’ve got a say, a central defender doesn’t get to score such a cracking goal all too often. The fact that it sent Algeria to South Africa was just the cherry on top.
Zlatko Dedic’s goal came in the 44th minute and helped Slovenia to equalize on aggregate (2-2) and get in front on away goals. Russia did too little in the first half, and when they were ready to up the pressure they lost Kerzhakov to a stupid red card. Another red for Zhirkov in the 90th minute capped off a miserable night for Russia and Guus Hiddink. Hats off to Slovenia though.

For a moment I wonder you mean about Bochum heading to South Africa.
Until I saw the two goals.Anyways, what a goal Anthar Yahia scored. Very Van Basten-like. And he being a central defender…not bad.
As for the second one, apart from what happened during the France-Ireland clash, I have to say Slovenia heading to the World Cup is certainly not what I had expected. I swore my eyes blinked when I watched the news report about that.
