VfB Stuttgart: Get Well Soon

By: Jan | October 24th, 2007

Get Well SoonThings truly look terminally f*#!ed up for Stuttgart at the moment. After gatecrashing the title race last season, they are now just one point clear of a relegation spot, deep down on the 14th place in the table. Their Champions League adventure – actually their whole European adventure – will end this winter, as they look to have inevitably booked the fourth and thus last place in their group. Their local rivals Karlsruhe can revel in Schadenfreude, while the neutral observer might try and analyse the shit out of this mess.

Alternatively you can follow the example given by Inara from the Lyon Offside and simply express your condolences and well wishes for Stuttgart.

Also, and maybe it’s because I’m an emotional fangirl, but I feel really bad for Stuttgart. I happen to like that team and am sad that their injury crisis (which is even worse than Lyon’s) has reduced the team to a shadow of what it was last season. The expressions on the faces of the Stuttgart players after Benzema’s goal dampened my joy at Lyon’s win. I really wish things hadn’t turned out so poorly for them both in Europe and domestically, and I hope their campaign picks up (as long as it’s not against Lyon!). They are a good team, and it’s unfortunate that for Lyon to win tonight, Stuttgart had to lose.

Ditto (-fangirl -40% emotional), and may their revival come right in time for their home match against Bayern Munich. A win there would be great for the whole league.

If you have any additional thoughts on the whole Stuttgart complex or want to follow Inara’s well wishes, feel free to comment. I’ll print out everything and send it to Armin Veh. Should cheer him up.

I wonder if winning the title was the worse thing that could have happened to this squad. It was an unrealistic result at the time, and now it seems that it set a standard that they can’t bear at the moment. If it doesn’t turn around soon, they may have to dismantle the side, just so that the kids aren’t forever ruined by it. It is an absolutely bizarre situation.

A Stuttgart win would be fantastic. I’ll pull my scarf out and hope for the best for them…and not just to see Bayern (finally) lose.

The sad thing is the bear pic you posted looks exactly like Armin Veh did last night.

    :(

I wish I could give Stuttgart players a hug! As well as pumping them with illegal drug stimulants so they play amazing well against Bayern.

Stuttgart is a very good team with an impressive roster. They are unlucky with all these injuries. Vs Lyon they inpressed me although. Of course some tactical choices diminished them, especially in defence, but i will talk to you what beyond me how they would play better only after the second match against lyon ;) .

I thought it was honest that Veh was saying something like it’ll probably get worse before it gets better. At least today they were able to get the win, though when was the last time Gomez actually found the back of the net?
