Uli Hoeneß: Moods in Progress

By: Jan | July 20th, 2007

Uli Hoeneß Moods

Chronicled during the pre-season friendly between Borussia Mönchengladbach and Bayern Munich. First serious, as in second Bundesliga, opposition and Bayern promptly lost the match 2-1. Although Bayern played without Luca Toni and Franck Ribery (and Philipp Lahm and Lukas Podolski and…), who were either injured or not fully fit, so you could probably expect a result more similar to the ones they achieved last season… Bastian Schweinsteiger nevertheless scored a beautiful goal from a free kick. Sascha Rösler, who joined Mönchengladbach from Alemannia Aachen, scored a pretty impressive goal as well.

In numbers:
6th minute: 1-0 Sascha Rösler
29th minute: 1-1 Bastian Schweinsteiger
53rd minute: 2-1 Eugen Polanski (penalty)

Attendance: 45.351

So Schweinsteiger doesn’t have Lyme disease anymore or whatever it was?

The inflammation(?) in his knee that may have been caused by the lyme disease is gone. But it seems they aren’t 100% sure whether this was caused by a previous tick bite or not and thus don’t know whether it was the lyme disease or not.

Anyway, he returned to training recently and already scored two goals against some amateur club and now another one against Gladbach. Let’s hope for the best. Especially that this type of injury doesn’t come back to haunt him. When the Lyme disease diagnosis was reported some months ago some people hinted at the potential chronic nature of this disease ie, he would have to deal with that type of injuries again and again which would basically mean the end of his pro football career. I haven’t heard anything pointing in that direction recently so I hope it’s really gone for good!
