The Jan Schlaudraff Goal Construction Kit

By: Jan | September 16th, 2008

For a goal of the month quality goal by Jan Schlaudraff we need two ingredients:

a = a chipped ball over an onrushing goalkeeper.

We’ll take Hannover’s second / Jan Schlaudraff’s first goal against Borussia Mönchengladbach from this weekend (5-1).

b = a great little run from left to right, dribbling past the entire back line of the opponent’s team in the process.

Hannover’s fourth / Jan Schlaudraff’s second goal against Borussia Mönchengladbach from this weekend perfectly fits the requirements.

a + b = c

c = Jan Schlaudraff’s goal for Alemannia Aachen vs Werder Bremen, which was voted goal of the month for November 2006.

Anyone know what happened between November 2006 and September 2008?

I’m speechless. Even if I did watched the Hannover-Gladbach match (it was shown live), I’m still amazed at the two goals. Especially the second video you posted, Jan. The third video, my goodness.

Anyhow, somehow his second goal just reminded me of the Gladbach-Werder match where Baumjohann did something like that. My mind was like thinking at once when I saw Schlaudraff’s effort against Gladbach – ‘He’s having his Baumjohann moment!’

I only remembered Schlaudraff went to Bayern after Aachen got relegated at the end of the 2006/07 season. And didn’t really feature when he was there. Yeah. So when I read that he is heading to Hannover and link up with his former coach Dieter Hecking, I thought it’s the best for him.

I think he deserves a call to the national team ,Kurany is over-rated and should had been kicked out after euro 2004 ,Gomez isn’ great either,Podolski and Klose sometimes they can be deadly other times invisible.and this guy can do miracles in his day

This was more like a rhetorical question. :-)

I would give him at least half a season to prove his worth in the league again, before calling him up. Schlaudraff is a very elegant player, so his goals almost always look pretty flashy and all, but he has to perform consistently first IMHO.

I still rate Gomez very highly. It’s amazing how many people are willing to write him off completely after his Euro performance. Gomez has already scored 6 goals in 9 games for Stuttgart this season. Luca Toni has problems in his national team as well at the moment, but that doesn’t make him a bad striker.

For now the one striker who IMHO really deserves more playing time for the national team is Patrick Helmes, who’s probably Germany’s best striker atm.

The was quite the “chippy” post Jan. I think Schlaudraff was making Gladbach pay for selling him to Aachen :P
