As an HSV supporter, I don't know whether it is a good thing or bad thing that he appears ready to stick around for another season. Good-he is clearly the greatest talent on the squad, and one of the better in all of Europe; bad-if he doesn't leave before 2009, he walks for free and HSV get nothing for him when he leaves.

Welcome back Chris. Much has happened at the HSV since you were away. Not really but, VDV being linked to Real Madrid. He has rubbished those rumours though - http://www.sportinglife.com/football/overseas/germany/news/story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=international_feed/08/07/11/SOCCER_Ger-Hamburg_Van_der_Vaart.html&TEAMHD=germany

I swear, I was surprised when the news first broke about early this week. But then given Marca reported it, you know you have to take it with a huge pinch of salt.

And yes, besides the 2008 Intertoto Cup, this is the only trophy Hamburg have won in 25 years. Ha!

Ian's been away on holiday as well. I am back and ready to collect my prize. Good thing I can use it on a strip; I am still on crutches until 15 July!

As there's really no other place (yet) to comment on it, I just wanted to acknowledge here a nice move by Köln picking up Ishiaku from Duisburg. A newly promoted team that can trot out a frontline of Helmes and Ishiaku is not typical. Whatever other problems they may have, it looks like they are serious about staying up, and they're definitely going to score some goals. I look for a more competitive Bundesliga this season when I see moves like this.
