The Bundesliga Offside Halloween Special

What better way to celebrate Halloween on a Bundesliga blog than to bring you the best horror tackle, injury and hair combo the league has ever seen in it’s 45 year history.
The setting: 1981/1982 season. Werder Bremen host Arminia Bielefeld at the Weserstadion.
The victim: Ewald Lienen, nowadays coach at Greek club Panionios FC, and back then striker for Arminia Bielefeld and active member of the peace movement.
The villain: Werder Bremen’s sliding, tackling and slitting defender Norbert Siegmann.
The puppet master: Werder coach Otto Rehagel, who Lienen actually ran to in shock after the tackle and accused him that he had incited Siegmann to foul him.

The aftermath: Lienen could return to action after four weeks and continue his career without problems. Siegmann continued his career with a destroyed reputation. After his career he actually became a buddhist.

Ohhhh dear god, Jan. That’s taking the spirit of Halloween a bit far. Aren’t there any cute pictures of pumpkins carved into Schalke 04 symbols or something out there? :::shudder:::
