Stat of the Day: Inzaghi needs 4 more Goals to surpass Müller’s Record
By: Jan | December 7th, 2007“It was a strange feeling, like inner peace,” Inzaghi told the Gazetta dello Sport after he surpassed Gerd Müllers age old European record of 62 goals. According to Setanta though, Inzaghi will now need to score four more goals to ultimately find his inner peace. Opta Sportsdata decided to recheck Müller’s goal tally and came up with a sum total of 66 goals in 74 European matches. A more in-depth look at the stats for both Müller and Inzaghi are available from the Setanta article.
And an even more in-depth look at Gerd Müller’s European record is available from this page: Gerhard “Gerd” Müller - Goals in European Cups

Interesting, Jan. Has UEFA had anything to say about this yet?

No worries, I’m sure he’ll cheat his way to four more.

Martha: no, I just heard about it because it was pointed out as a sidenote during the Guardian Football Weekly podcast. I then checked the net and found the Setanta article. Maybe there was another Müller playing for Bayern during the seventies. It’s a rather common name. And someone mistook four goals of him for Gerd Müller goals? We’ll see.

UEFA is right - Setanta article is fake. Fairs cup, where Muller scoreв 7 goals was not held under UEFA. And setanta statistic missing 3 Muller`s goals in Supercup
So 63 for Inzagi and 62 (66 - 7 = 59 + 3 = 62) for Muller are right
