Snapshot: Achtung! Surrender. For you Fritz, the UEFA Cup 2008 is over.
By: Jan | May 1st, 2008
A welcome message to the Bayern players in German: “We don’t wait for May 9th. The surrender has to happen today.” The UEFA had the banners removed before the game kicked off. So Bayern can’t argue that they just followed orders. But the Zenit fans got what they asked for nonetheless.
File under: yawn.

I only know about the August 15 reference. The surrender of the Japanese at this part of the world which marked the end of the war here in Asia. It’s still remembered at this side of the world. The thing is, as far as I remembered, I don’t know anything about the May 9 reference (though I know the war ended in May in Europe from my textbook) from my former History classes (or maybe I had forgotten given it’s embarrassing WWII was in my textbook). Until now.
(Coincidentally enough, August 15 is also my birth date. Yes. And I used to wonder to myself once in History class why was I born on this date when my History teacher was teaching the class about the Japanese’s eventual surrender.)
Enough of History lessons. Anyhow Jan, what a title you had chosen. I remembered about the original source…

What a classy display, and thanks for remembering, Zenit fans (actually, I am pretty thankful that the Germans didn’t win that war). If you happen to find the huge fan banner which followed the WWII reference, drop me a note (Tom Dunmore, are you reading this?).

I wish Bayern beat Zenit and shut all those Russians up.
Its 2008, get a life.
