The Numbers Game: Matchday 15
By: Jan | December 7th, 2009Some sad, some odd and some encouraging records.
100. After already missing 100+ sitters much earlier in his career, Kevin Kuranyi now scored his 100th Bundesliga goal on Sunday. He scored it against Hertha, mind you, but congratulations anyway! He is the 47th player in the history of the Bundesliga to score 100 or more goals. Kuranyi joins Claudio Pizzaro (123) and Miroslav Klose (117), who are the only other active strikers with more goals.
4. Bochum’s striker Diego Klimowicz picked up his fourth straight red card in his Bundesliga career on Saturday. Oddly enough all four red cards where awarded by the same referee: Lutz Wagner. Klimowicz’ team mate Marcel Maltritz offered the following explanation: “Maybe Diego pinched his wife at some point.”
42. Borussia Mönchengladbach travelled to Munich 42 times in their Bundesliga history. They won only once on October 14th 1995 (2-1). With a different set of goalkeepers on both sides, Gladbach would have had a good chance to grab their second victory. A Holger Badstuber freekick eventually ended the hopes of at least a draw for the foals. It was Badstuber’s first Bundesliga goal.
7. Hamburg failed to win their last seven Bundesliga games, drawing five and losing two. The feared and predicted second half of the season collapse comes early this time around and maybe it’s over until new year.
37. 37 goals have been scored in Wolfsburg’s home games this season. The highest of any Bundesliga club and as Wolfsburg fans will point out, way too many of those were contributed by the visiting teams.

Congrats to Kuranyi. But one thing is for certain unless the unthinkable happens – The bundestrainer will not be calling him up for the World Cup.

Maybe Löw resigns in the foreseeable future… but at the same time Kuranyi will face more and more potent competition for his spot – so even with a different Bundestrainer he might not get an invitation again.

Good shout regarding the competition for Kuranyi’s spot.
‘Maybe Löw resigns in the foreseeable future’
That is if God forbid, Germany fumble in the World Cup. People talk about Group G being the so-called ‘Group of Death’ but, I think Germany’s group can be considered that to some extent as well. Just my opinion.
