Roy Makaay rides Home

By: Jan | June 28th, 2007

Roy Makaay on a horseThat was quick. Roy Makaay leaves Bayern Munich and joins Feyenoord Rotterdam immediately.

Quicker than quite a few journalists could write a piece speculating about his possible future. Quicker than Felix Magath could say that he likes to see him in Wolfsburg. And on a side note: Wolfsburg are still anxiously waiting for their first really big transfer. Magath tries to make his Bayern Munich connection count, but those connections have been more of a hot air production facility so far.

Back to Makaay. I think we all will remember him for two remarkable numbers: 10.2 and 0.60. 10.2 seconds was the time he needed to score the fastest Champions League goal in history. It went by pretty quickly in case you missed it. 0.60 is his goal average that earned himself a place in Munich’s hall of fame. He is the all-time second best in the club’s history. Only legendary striker Gerd Müller ‘the Bomber’ or just ‘tiny fatty’ Müller beats him with his record that will probably stand for the ages: 0.85 goals per match. No info about the transfer fee is available. Probably around €5-8m?
