Quote of the Day: Santa Claus comes early to Berlin
By: Jan | November 11th, 2008
“Is this too early? I wish everyone a merry Christmas.”
Lucien Favre was in a festive mood when he capped off his short speech at Hertha’s annual general meeting on Monday.
It may well have been too early, but Hertha are currently enjoying such a unique moment of all around good news, performances and publicity, that you can excuse Lucien Favre for mistaking all of this for Christmas.
On Sunday nearly 60000 came to the Olympiastadion to get a glimpse of the much talked about wonder boys from Hoffenheim, with their clever scouting, good youth work and brilliant coach. They left it, after cheering Hertha to a 1-0 victory, and with the cautious insight, that their own club might also be capable of some clever scouting, good youth work and brilliant coaching. After one third of the season Hertha are 5th in the table, despite an impressive injury list and after playing more games than almost any other team in the league – Hertha and Stuttgart have been around thanks to their UEFA Cup commitments.
On Monday Hertha were able to present their best ever financial results with a record turnover and profits – €5m after taxes. With Sara Goller and Laura Ludwig, Hertha’s beach volleyball department is also home to the current German and European champions. What more do you want?

Nice, Parker. Very nice.
Makes my day as a Stuttgart supporter all the way in a wet Singapore.‘They left it, after cheering Hertha to a 1-0 victory, and with the cautious insight, that their own club might also be capable of some clever scouting, good youth work and brilliant coaching.’
I read that Dieter Hoeness said that this was the best performance of the season for Hertha. The match was not shown here, and so I can only depend on what the Hertha general manager was saying.Wonder boys from Hoffenheim…I like that term, Jan.
There is an article from The Independent on how Hoffenheim is shaking up the Bundesliga today – http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/news-and-comment/glenn-moore-hoffenheims-style-revolution-spices-up-the-bundesliga-1012141.html I like what Hamburg’s Joris Mathijsen was saying after his side lost 3-0 to Hoffenheim (it’s in the article) – ‘I don’t know what these guys ate before [the match].’

I went to the match on Sunday: despite some tough times in the first half when Hertha really sailed against the wind, it could easily have ended 3-0 with some better finishing.
Voronin is in excellent form at the moment, and played his heart out from first whistle to last. Here’s hoping we can keep hold of him once his loan is up (is there an option to buy?).
