The Numbers Game: Matchday 16

By: Jan | December 14th, 2009

Strange records were equalled or broken this weekend.

3. Hannover scored three own goals in their match against Borussia Mönchengladbach. They set a new record for own goals scored by one team and equalled the record of most own goals in a Bundesliga match (Kaiserslautern 1-3 Stuttgart, 9th November 1963).

5. Jens Lehmann picked up his 5th red card of his Bundesliga career on Sunday. A new record among Bundesliga goalkeepers. Though, for Jens Lehmann it’s merely a blink of the eye in his CV.

6. We’re going through one of the lowest scoring Bundesliga seasons ever and so it was only a matter of time until some kind of defensive record was broken. FC Cologne managed to play 6 consecutive away games without conceding a goal. A new Bundesliga record.

7. Cologne also broke another rather sad record. The team’s offense only managed to score a measly 7 goals so far. No team in the history of the Bundesliga has ever scored fewer goals after 16 matches.
