Well, Marcus Berg is certainly on his way to the HSV. The website of his now-formal club Groningen confirmed the news.

An update on the Marcus Berg situation. According to the Voetbal International website, both sides have not yet reach an agreement. But Berg’s agent Soren Lerby is confident that it will still work out.

Since the news I got from Voetbal International, at least that has some credibility. Or at least I hope, considering VI (the short form) is like the Dutch version of the kicker magazine, though it is focusing on football only.

With the Berg transfer and plans to add two central defenders, there certainly won’t be any money left for both the transfer fee and the wages. A van der Vaart deal would need to be similar to the Podolski deal by Cologne, who are generating and hope to generate the money through massive hype (which equals merchandising Euros, sponsorship Euros and all that) and a little help from investors.

Where do you get that photo, Jan? Is it during the time when he first signed for the HSV?

But really, when I first read where the original source comes from…I was almost laughing in my head. It has to be Marca, indeed. But then again, I thought just the day before or something Bild had already first cooked up the rumours?

Anyhow, I had read that the HSV could not afford to bring him back due to financial reasons.
