Free Bundesliga stats

If you are a football stats person then check out the betting at Betfair site as they provide info on at least two Bundesliga games each week.

The pages are a little minimal and their interpretation is, at times, downright strange but they are free and hey kids, statistics can sometimes be interesting!

The stats this week include such gems as “Bayern have won their last 19 home games after a draw in their previous home match and have won 19 out of 24 since their last home defeat following an away win.” and the slightly less important stat that “When leading the table in the past 10 seasons, Bayern have scored in all 20 home games against a team coming off a home defeat.”

The Schalke-Dortmund betting preview is slightly more revealing.

The fact that in 39 away games under Mirko Slomka, Schalke have lost only three games to a team as low in the table as Borussia Dortmund is in itself interesting and points to a Schalke win but it is confused by the second stat that reveals “No team has completed the double in the Ruhr derby since 1996/97, and none since 1982/83 have completed the double when the second match has been away.”

If you are a Dortmund fan and have a fair grasp of German a google search for Die Sendung mit der Maus Schalke Anderson brings up a Power Point presentation at number one the search results which is well worth a download.

Schalke fans will have to get out their ‘Tempos’ out, once again.

    Time for the reality check:

“Bayern have won their last 19 home games after a draw in their previous home match”
    Reset. Start from zero.

“and have won 19 out of 24 since their last home defeat following an away win.”
Make that 19 out of 25.

“When leading the table in the past 10 seasons, Bayern have scored in all 20 home games against a team coming off a home defeat.”
    Still holds true.

“in 39 away games under Mirko Slomka, Schalke have lost only three games to a team as low in the table as Borussia Dortmund”
40 away games, still only three lost games.

“No team has completed the double in the Ruhr derby since 1996/97, and none since 1982/83 have completed the double when the second match has been away.”
Schalke complete first derby double since 1996/97.
Schalke first to complete the derby double, when the second match has been away, since 1982/83.

    It’s been Schalke’s weekend all around. :-)

If Schalke had lost and Bayern won I think it would have been the end of any Bundesliga dreams for the boys from Gelsenkirchen. I still think they will find it very hard.
