Fantuning: Wolfsburg give their Supporters a little Makeover
By: Jan | November 2nd, 2007
Wolfsburg try really hard to become more than a mediocre lower end of the table Bundesliga club.
The first step was to install former Bayern coach Felix Magath as their new manager (in the Premier League sense). So different to the normal Bundesliga model of one coach and one sporting director, he has all the power to shape the team to his liking. Different to his predecessors at Wolfsburg, he was also given roughly three times as much money - as in €30m - to buy new players. Felix Magath also didn’t shy away from a new mission statement: Champions League by 2010. Much to my enjoyment, things didn’t go to plan in the early stages of the season, but much to my despair things are looking much better now. In fact, Wolfsburg are currently ranked seventh in the table.
The second step comes in form of a new green-white image campaign, to turn a club, whose fan appeal shares a symbiotic relationship with Wolfsburg’s city limits, into a club whose few fans are at least seriously pimped. The club’s rich benefactor Volkswagen sets the tone here. The club’s new merchandising catalogue is all about tuning and bling bling, as Quiroga and Marcelinho - pictured above - also try to communicate. Marcelinho’s name badge reads Marcelin-Yo by the way.

On a related note: a Swedish porn king has bought 10% of the shares of AIK Stockholm to gain some influence in the club. So watch out for their upcoming merchandise.

Quiroga looks like an early 90’s one hit wonder called Rico Suave. I suggest you google that song to get the full effect of the reference. It’s worth a chuckle.
But as for Marcelinho - does anyone else see the complete and utter irony in a “planned community” channeling “gangbangers” to sell their image.
I imagine Christian Pander saw this and put in a transfer request immediately.

Looked up Rico Suave on YouTube. Thanks for the tip.;-)
I hadn’t thought about Funky Pee when writing the post. He would indeed fit in perfectly with the ‘new’ Wolfsburg posse.
