As you, Jan, have decided to write about the whole Bundesliga here (a thing you do very well by the way), I made it my task to proofread the Schalke-facts. And I have found a minor mistake in this post: Mesut Özil is written with a Z.

Yes, sporting director Horst Heldt got quite worked up about all this. Juventus is/was supposedly willing to pay as much as €25m for Mario Gomez and €20m for Fernando Meira. Don't know if those numbers are even near the truth.

Anyway, Gomez didn't comment on those rumours but Meira was actually quite charmed by the offer and said that he would like to move to a club like Juventus if Stuttgart lets him. But so far Stuttgart remained super strict regarding any request or offer from other clubs. I guess they fear, that if they give in on one player that this opens the gates for others to follow. The way it is atm is a good signal to the other players in the squad. They can be sure that they will stay together and can only get stronger next season.

I read some crazy rumor somewhere that Juventus were interested in Stuttgart's Fernando Meira? If so, I'd be sad. I love that Meira is at Stuttgart.

That is the boring answer. My guess is that he is a legend for knocking back 50 pieces of sushi and a jug of saki in one sitting. Either that or it is his striking resemblance to Godzilla.

He won the FIFA Award for best goalkeeper and best player at the same time at the 2002 World Cup in Japan/S.Korea. Ever since he's a superduperstar over there.
