Quote of the Day: Uli Hoeneß Takes on the Oil Mafia

By: Jan | August 7th, 2008

SPOX: What bothers you?
Hoeneß: I’m bothered when I drive to a petrol station once a week. This oil mafia squeezes money out of my pockets to invest it in football players. This stinks to the high heavens, and this is also true for Mr. Abramovich.
SPOX: The Chelsea-boss is probably not your best friend.
Hoeneß: No. This mafia rules the whole world and manipulates the oil price. I won’t take that any longer.
SPOX: What do you want to do about it?
Hoeneß: We have to beat clubs like Chelsea on the pitch. That would be gratifying.

Bayern Munich’s general manager Uli Hoeneß in an interview with Spox.

Look what you had started, Jan. ;)

It has started to be reported at some places already. I was flipping through the teletext on the television here and it quoted what you posted here. Goal.com already has a report of it.

Not from Goal.com but, it was what I saw on the television here on the teletext.

Ugh, my translation isn’t perfect but still way better than what AFP come up with. Some parts are even plain wrong. :-)
