Goal of the Year 2009: Grafite vs Bayern

By: Jan | January 28th, 2010

The viewers of the German match highlights program Sportschau (think BBC Match of the Day) have voted for their favorite goal of 2009. They’ve been doing this since the 1970s, which gives the award some historical legitimacy and makes it quasi official. This time around 41,29% of the vote went to a certain Grafite and his infamous stroll through the Bayern penalty box. It was the icing on the cake of Wolfsburg’s 5-1 demolition of Bayern Munich back in April. Happier times for Wolfsburg and Grafite. Given the slightly limited numbers of Wolfsburg fans, the amount of name- and clubvoting contributing to the result can be neglected, making it an even more legit and worthy winner.

To celebrate the goal of the year I’ve compiled a playlist given you this exact goal over and over and over again for ten minutes in six different languages. Enjoy. Bayern fans might probably want to spend those 10 minutes over at the Bayern Offside instead, to check what’s new with Ribery.

I remember that goal. Reason is I fell out of my chair when it happened! Hopefully with some new leadership Wolfsburg can become a contender again.
