A Miroslav Klose Goal for Abby
By: Jan | July 1st, 2007
Before starting with their preparations for the new season, Bayern Munich decided to take a trip to Hongkong to play an exhibition match against Brazilian champions Sao Paolo. Hongkong celebrated the 10th anniversary of its reunification with China, and Uli Hoeness must have thought that this would be the ideal occasion to market his club and the brand Bayern Munich in Asia. The match ended 2-1 in Bayern’s favour.
Bayern left a lot of their newly acquired star players at home, as they are either still on vacation or injured. The squad was a mixture of starting XI regulars like Philipp Lahm and young talent from Bayern’s second team. It didn’t really matter, since Sao Paolo only fielded a B-Team (or rather a C-Team as Bruno pointed out in his comment) as well. I watched the match a bit, but it wasn’t really anything more than a relaxed training session. Sao Paolo took the lead in the 19th minute, but Miroslav Klose and Hamit Altintop turned the match around in the second half. A perfect start for Miroslav Klose who earned himself a 99 out of 100 rating by his new coach. Here are the highlights (sorry I can’t embed videos atm).

I should say that is Sao Paulo’s C team.
The side’s main players were forward Marcel ( striker who is struggling to be the fourth option for the attack behind Dagoberto, Leandro, Aloisio and Borges), Maurinho (fourth option for right-back behind Ilsinho, Reasco and Souza), and Midfielder Rafinha (who played only 1 game so far in the season). The rest of the players were young talents from the U-20 team).Posted from

Jan, do you know what the status of Roque Santa Cruz is? I know Roma was at least flirting with him awhile back, and he definitely has to want out of Munich now more than ever. His name hasn’t really popped up on anything I’ve seen. I’ve been a big fan for a long time and Roma could easily use a player like him. Have any inside info?
Btw, I’d love for someone to get ahold of those contract numbers coming out of Munich for next year. I know Toni was at €5.5m per, but they’ve done some serious convincing to get guys who didn’t seem to have Bayern atop their wishlist. I’m assuming much of that has to do with €€€€€€€.

There is a rumour going that Galatasaray Istanbul is interested. Comes from the Turkish media and doesn’t sound too reliable. He had been flirting with the likes of Benfica as well AFAIR. Anyway, there is the possible move to Rome as well, but I guess you read about that as well.

I can’t provide any more inside knowledge than that. The German sports tabloid Sportbild leaked the Bayern Munich salaries. Although Bayern swiftly denied those numbers and threatened to sue the publisher.

Thank you thank you.
About 30 minutes after I posted that, the Italian news report was posted. Obviously. Even when I win, I just can’t win.
