Snapshot: The Objectophile
By: Jan | April 16th, 2008
After scoring four goals (a career first) in Schalke’s 5-0 thrashing of poor Energie Cottbus, Kevin Kuranyi could no longer suppress his feelings. He officially outed himself as an objectophile. What is less surprising is the fact that his crush is a TV camera.

No wonder as I was watching the highlights of the match on DW-TV, I almost wanted to squirm when I saw that. Not sure if I want to barf now just thinking about it…

Unfortunately for him, I don’t think scoring 4 goals in one game against Cottbus is going to get Kuranyi into Jogi’s starting XI. He simply requires far too many chances.
Jan, I remember reading that article some time ago and thinking that I was in love with the writers at Der Spiegel. Very ‘live and let live,’ and very funny.

And I thought I could surprise my readers. Maybe next time.:-)
About Kuranyi: I don’t think Kuranyi will make it into Jogi’s starting XI either. Though, it would still be great to take an in-form Kuranyi to the Euros as a substitute/tactical option. He is strong in the air, defends better than most/all other German strikers, is unselfish (at least with the NT) and actually scores a goal here and then.

It’s just like Kuranyi to show up with 4 goals once the bus has left treadmarks on Slomka’s torso. Against Cottbus no less.(And there is no less, because despite what the standings say, I think Cottbus is the worst team in the league). I think Kuranyi is the best example of how raw goal-scoring stats are not a predictor of actual value.

Guess what. Jogi has spoken on Kuranyi and that he will be part of the national team for the upcoming Euro 2008 (unless something of unforseen circumstances happen…touchwood).

Actually, the Der Speigel link is the first time I saw it. And so I can say you did surprised me, Jan.
I had heard of Der Speigel. Even all the more they used to interview my country’s prime minister (it’s like the equivalent of the Chancellor position in your country)…this was like almost a year ago or something.
