Bundesliga Season Finale: Half-Time

By: Jan | May 19th, 2007

md34live.jpgThings are still in the balance although VfB Stuttgart still has an advantage. Schalke plays a fantastic match against Bielefeld and leads 2:0. Cottbus even took the lead against Stuttgart in the 19th minute but Thomas Hitzelsperger equalised with a beautiful volley from 17 meters eight minutes later. As it stands now Schalke and Stuttgart both have 68 points. But Stuttgart has the better goal scoring record so Schalke needs to score two more goals in their match and hope that Cottbus can hold on to a draw or even win it.

Elsewhere the race for the UI Cup spot is still tight. Hamburg currently have the advantage and lead 2:0 against Aachen. Their direct competitor Dortmund is one goal behind in Leverkusen and now needs to score two to get back into the pole position. The score in Hannover and Nuremberg is still 0:0. Those are the three teams that currently have the best chances.

Mehmet Scholl is meanwhile celebrating a worthy farewell match for Bayern Munich. He got the assist for Bayern’s first goal and went on to score the second one himself. Currently Munich leads comfortably 3:0 against Mainz.
Edit: sorry, the assist for the first goal wasn’t by Scholl. Anyway, he still scored the second one.;)
