The German National Team sets off on an Alpine Adventure
By: Jan | April 1st, 2008
They take on the Matterhorn and they do it in silent movie fashion. The intertitles read “A difficult path lies ahead of you” and “But you won’t take it alone”. Also, props to Jens Lehmann who can save more than just penalties.
A big global brand reveals itself at the end and I would kindly like to ask you to completely ignore it. Otherwise I would feel so used by clever Web 2.0 marketers.

Ah, yes, the German national team following an old tradition of making other people feel slightly embarassed about being from the same country. Well, I have to admit it’s a lot better in monochrome.
The scariest thing about the whole spot is how comfortable Schweini looks in this clothing. And of course Per Mertesacker’s beard.

Hmmm…after seeing Mertesacker, I guess it’s not Kuranyi’s fault his beard looks so ridiculous. Obviously, it just grows that way.
I don’t think they should play that music whilst Schneider is gazing up at Lehmann, I get the feeling he’ll demonstrate his gratefulness by proposing marriage.

‘A big global brand reveals itself at the end and I would kindly like to ask you to completely ignore it.’
Sorry to say this Jan, I didn’t.
Imagine this appears on the TV here. But then again, I reckoned it won’t given it’s ’starring’ the German national team and the ad will have to be in English. Yeah, we are that ’stubborn’.But then, the big global brand you said is actually quite a familar name over here…and just about every Saturday (that is like the ‘traditional’ day for the various car brands to splash their ads in the newspapers), I will see one ad of it being splashed in the papers.
But you need to fork out a huge sum just to own that car here. It’s a fact. Not any Tom, Dick or Harry can own it. Unless it’s for official events, or if you think you are that rich.

Juliet, I get the same feeling too. It almost freaks me out.Anyhow Jan, thanks for the video. So, this is the video which the guys did two months back ahead of their friendly away in Austria…

This is just as silly as I expected it to be, after seeing the still pictures a few months ago.
I’m kind of glad about that.

*buries head in hands* I am seriously considering switching my allegiance to Sweden for the Euros. At least they look good in beards. (Well, except Zlatan.)

Angharad, now you made me remembered something. If I have to switch allegiance during the Euros, I will go for France. I seemed to have a thing for the Les Bleus somehow. No, it has nothing to do with me prior to watching the ad. But, it’s strange I felt nothing when watching the France-England friendly back then…
