DFB-Pokal: A Case of Club vs Country Family

By: Jan | November 2nd, 2007

The draw for the next round of the DFB-Pokal is out, and the most interesting matchup surely will be the clash between Borussia Dortmund and Werder Bremen. Third division side Wuppertal hit the jackpot, as they were awarded the lucrative draw against Bayern Munich, and are already contemplating moving to a bigger ground like the Arena auf Schalke.

Another third division side that got a lucrative draw against a Bundesliga team was Rot-Weiss Essen. They will face second placed Hamburg at home. A draw that will definitely be one of the biggest matches of the year for Essen. Maybe even big enough to serve as an excuse not to attend your brothers wedding party.

Dave Allan runs the Rot Weiss Essen blog Red White Germany and now faces this exact dilemma. He wrote a post going through all the arguments against the wedding and for the football match and vice versa. The final score: 5-1 for football. Anyway, comments are encouraged and there’s even a little poll which is currently tied with three votes each, for and against the wedding.

So, if you feel like interfering with someone else’s family life, head over to his blog and make him move his arse over to the wedding or encourage him to gamble on the possibility of attending a historic cup fight.

Seems a bit tough of this fellow. However, football is football and I would go for the Hamburg game. Marriages don’t always last!
