Unpimp my Coach

By: Jan | December 7th, 2007

Nuremberg’s coach Hans Meyer is one of the best and most likeable coaches of the Bundesliga. He first saved Nuremberg from relegation and then lead them to a 6th place finish and a DFB Cup win last season. In his free time he is coaching the German national team of writers, who competed in the Writers’ World Cup 2007. Fittingly he is also a member of the German Academy for Football Culture. Fans love him for his witty remarks and reporters fear him, as he routinely unravels the idiocy within the questions they just asked.

Someone at EA Sports had the – basically – great idea to to ask Hans Meyer to feature on the German cover of FIFA Manager 08. And Meyer was kind enough to do so. But then EA had to screw it up completely, with a generic multi-photoshop-layered roughed up crap cover, that makes him look like a grim bad-ass type of coach. If they wanted someone like that, they should have asked Arminia Bielefeld’s Ernst I’m the one who says when I get fired Middendorp instead. A cover worthy of Hans Meyer should have looked more like the mock-up on the right.

I don’t know, Jan, I sort of like the badass cover more than the Benny Hill version …
