Alou Diarra to Bremen, Lincoln to Istanbul, Kahn Urged to Lighten Up
By: Jan | June 6th, 2007Werder Bremen’s sporting director Klaus Allofs is keen to sign French international midfielder Alou Diarra from Olympique Lyon. Allofs is quoted in Bild: “I have spoken to the player and he is very interested in a change. So we will try and make the transfer happen.” Bremen is expected to pay between 5 and 7 million euros. Portsmouth and Juventus Turin are rumoured to compete with Bremen for this player. It’s interesting to note that Diarra speaks German and played in Bayern Munich’s second team between 2000 and 2002.
Galatasaray Istanbul is interested to lure Schalke 04’s playmaker Lincoln to Turkey. They plan to enter negotiations with the player in the coming days. Lincoln has already agreed to the transfer according to sources close to the club. This comes as unexpected news for Schalke’s sporting director Andreas Müller. He claims that they haven’t yet received an offer by Galatasaray and they also had no contact with Lincoln recently since he is currently with the Brazilian national team. The transfer fee is estimated to be around 8 million euros. Schalke on the other hand is interested to extend Lincoln’s contract with Schalke and they will surely run into some trouble if one of their key players unexpectedly leaves the club this summer.
Bayern Munich’s chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is fed up with Oliver Kahn’s chronic bad mood and urged him to lighten up a bit. “I told Oliver that it can’t be that he comes into the locker room every morning with such a bad temper. He spreads his grumpyness to everyone else.”, said Rummenigge. Just what exactly in this world is capable of cheering up Oliver Kahn? I probably don’t want to know.

Diarra would be a great move for Bremen. He didn’t play much at Lyon, but that was due to personality conflicts with Houllier, not because of his skill. In fact, when he did play, nearly all his games were superb. He’s tall, great in the air, and has a strong physical presence. He’s not called the next Pat Vieira for nothing!
The thing with Diarra is that his talent hasn’t been fully developed yet. He has a lot more to offer, and with the right coaching, he could really make Houllier regret benching him.

Hey Inara,
thanks a lot for the inside knowledge! That’s the great thing of blogging around here. Expertise for certain topics I have no clue of is just sitting around the corner.:-) Wow, if what you say is true then it’s once again one of Allof’s big coups. It was the same story with Diego who was sitting on the bench in Porto and now became Bundesliga MVP. I think Bremen is an excellent club to develop a players talents.

I saw an article in the Kicker that Lyon was interested in Klose. Is there any substance to that or is it the drug induced ravings of a poor columnist?

It’s official that Lyon are interested and have asked Allofs about Klose. And it’s interesting to note that Allofs is keen to sign Diarra. So the article speculates about a possible Diarra/Klose deal. As far as Bremen is concerned the negotiations with Bayern are on ice. Bayern has offered 10 million euros for Klose which wasn’t enough for Bremen. Then Bremen asked to swap Klose for Podolski. Something that is out of question for Uli Hoeness.
I still feel that Bremen is just waiting for a better offer from Bayern and then they will seal the deal. But the thought about Klose moving to Lyon instead of Munich is great. Right into Hoeness’ arrogant face…
