The Best Response to Bayer Leverkusen’s Start to the Season

Complete memory loss.
Albeit involuntary and unfortunate in case of Leverkusen’s goalkeeper Fabian Giefer. Giefer had a game to forget anyway, after accidentally setting up Sami Allagui for Mainz’s first goal in his team’s 2-0 defeat on Sunday. Late in the game he then suffered a concussion after colliding with Mainz’s Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting.
“I have a total memory lapse. I did not even know how we played. I am missing a month of memories, it’s pretty scary. I don’t remember anything about my mistake. I don’t remember any of our preparations for this game or the hotel in Mainz or even our (pre-season) training camp in Zillertal (Austria).” – AFP
Following a shock first round exit in the DFB-Pokal and a disappointing defeat against Mainz, Giefer’s team mates and coach Robin Dutt would probably like to forget the past month ever happened as well.
Giefer will definitely miss the next match against Bremen and with Rene Adler being out for around six months, Leverkusen are slowly running out of goalkeepers.
