Video: 70s Bundesliga Kits (complete with expressive dance number)

Kraftwerk were busy minimalising their Autobahn record. The Bundesliga Offside blogger Jan was busy weaving the threads of fate to get his parents to date and multiply a bit quicker, fearing he could miss out on all the glory and excitement of German football in the 70s – as he eventually would, receiving mullets and moustaches as consolation. And Günther Netzer was busy perfecting his trademark hair style and was promptly invited to tell the nation about it on the show Das aktuelle Sportstudio. And there he would witness, that adidas had been busy redesigning some Bundesliga jerseys…
So, now is the time on the Bundesliga Offside vhen ve dance!
In order of appearance the alternative kits for: ???, Schalke 04, Duisburg, Hamburg, VfB Stuttgart and Fortuna Düsseldorf. Günther Netzer caps this clip off by saying, that he’s also of the opinion that there should be a bit more colour in the stadiums and that this would be a service to the fans.
P.S.: I couldn’t resist doing some research. The host calls the guy responsible for the colourful spectacle Herr von Garnier. Google and Wikipedia revealed to me that his full name is Friedrich-Ernst von Garnier, (graphic) artist, industrial designer, author and, drumroll, a colour philosopher. In 1974 adidas hired von Garnier to modernise the jerseys of the Bundesliga. The result of this work is shown in this video. Nothing has really come from this afterwards, except for the dance number, which adidas seems to be quite fond of.

That was quite literally the gayest thing I have ever seen. Holy shit. The sad thing is that while those fashions didn’t make it in the Bundesliga, they were prevalent in the 70’s in MLB here in the states.

The shirts, goodness me. I had always wondered how is it like to live in the 70s. Living in the era where my parents spent their schooldays.

The 1974 I know…my parents were still teenagers themselves. They still didn’t know each other at that time. They once told me that when they were dating (this was in the 80s) and when were talking about their childhood, they realised that they actually both grew up in the same neighbourhood.Ha. Must be Fate.
And yeah, there is a reason why I am a child of the 90s. I was born in the late 80s. I’m 95% certain (and 98% this can’t be proven one way or another) that the first ‘kit’ is 1. FCK. Since it was on WDR I’m guessing it was filmed in Cologne, so that other FCK might not be a bad guess either.
